The whole reason we are here in Hong Kong is to work the Sotheby’s International Realty Desk inside at the Sotheby’s Hong Kong Auction. There were 17 offices selected to participate and we each got equal time at the desk over the course of the Auction. This event is highly controlled by the Auction House as to what we can do, how we do it and where we do it.
We came, we learned, and we met a lot of great people, both from other SIR offices as well as Auction House clients, overall we would do it again.
Our designated area allows for 4 people at a time. Sorry, cameras are not allowed inside the Auction Event so we did this very quietly as we did not want to create a security issue.
What is on display at this event is like being in several world class museums at once, some of the items have not been seen for over 90 years while they were in very private collections. This is not a place for anyone on a budget. As an example, if you were building a new wine cellar, you could come this auction with a budget of say $500,000 and be able to select from some of the finest wines from any where in the world and any period of time. Sometimes only single bottles are auctioned the largest lot would be a full case. While we watched the wine auction, prices ranged around $350-500 a bottle with the highest being just under $20,000 for a single bottle. During the period we were there European wines dominated the auction
